The Dandelion Debate

First let me start this off by reassuring everyone that Amelia is doing great after her surgery yesterday. She was in surgery at 8:15 and we were discharged an hour later. By 10:00 am she had eaten a sausage McMuffin and was back to her usual self. On the way home I asked her if she could hear better. Her response was "mommy, I'm not saying "what" all the time anymore." I took that as a yes. By the time we got home, she was really feeling good and asked me if we could wrestle. As my sibling would tell you, I'm really not that much of an athlete so instead we played outside in the sandbox.

Then we took some pictures of the wildlife in our back yard:

Most people would say that Dandelions are weeds. But who made the decision that they were a weed and not a flower? Afterall, they have leaves, a stem, buds and eventually they bloom, just like a flower. I think most children will tell you that Dandelions are flowers and that they are beautiful flowers that mommies love. On Tuesday when I picked Amelia up from day care, she ran to meet me as I was walking up the drive way. In her tiny hands were two fist fulls of crumpled dandelions and a mixture of grass. Her day care provider told me that she ran around for a half hour picking every dandelion she could find for her mommy. Then she held them in her sticky hands yellowed from the dandelions until I drove up. I did what every mother would do, put them on display in my house:

To me, these are more lovely than a dozen red roses. Wouldn't you agree?

My poor baby!

Amelia is scheduled to have surgery next Wednesday to have the tubes in her ears replaced. She has a lot of fluid on her ears and her hearing has been affected greatly. It brakes my heart when I say something to her and she says "mama, I can't hear you." I hate the thought of her having surgery, no matter how mild, but even more, I hate the fact that she can't hear clearly.

I posted this picture because Amelia was sitting on our bed one night and said "mommy, take a picture of me." She smiled really big for the camera.

Fishing Opener

As you know, last weekend with the fishing opener. It would be a "fish" tale to tell you that Ryan and Amelia caught anything. It wasn't for lack of trying though. We spent part of the weekend at the family cabin. It rained most of the day but Tyler and his uncles made their own fun by getting out Tyler's bb gun and shooting at cans and targets they made. This weekend is supposed to be gorgeous but we won't be making it up to the lake. I am in the middle of painting my bathroom and need to finish it before the weather gets too nice and I want to spend all of my free time outside.

The last photo is of Janis, my brother Troy's dog. Isn't she pretty?

Wonder Kids

I have to brag for a moment. Amelia had her speech therapy assessment this morning. It is required that she complete a cognitive assessment as part of the testing. They need to find a "ceiling" for her intellectual functioning. The two teachers testing her said that they need to come back to see her again. They only brought materials to test to the cognitive abilities of age 5 and Amelia is beyond that. They will come back next Thursday and test her using materials for ages 6 and up. She recognized 4 letter words today! Now if only we could potty train her . . .

And to top it off, Tyler shot a 63 at his golf match yesterday. I am so proud of my children!
